The development of a serial number list has been very difficult because of the lack of official records. Mr. H. N. White kept very detailed records but when the company was sold to the Seeburg Corporation all official records were destroyed. When looking up the age of your instrument, complete the following steps: (1.) Find your instruments catalog page and year that the catalog was made. Pay special attention to the small details on your instrument because most artists drawings account for unique changes and features. (2.) Compare your findings to the serial number list. The 1240/1241 production ceased at serial number 780899; 2340/2341 production started at serial number 780901, in June 1980. At least, that's what Conn-Selmer authorities told Dan Schulz. From 1987 to 1995, the serial numbers have a prefix: the prefix number plus 50 gives you the year of manufacture. From 1996 to 2000, '5' preceeded the serial number. Early instruments have a lion's head near the serial number and are marked The King. Before 1918 the engraving read simply as 'H. N. White'. In 1918 the company was incorporated and 'Co' was added to the engraving. In September 1964 the King logo was updated to the crown that is still used today. This is a King SilverSonic Manufactured in 1962. The engraving reads "King Super 20 Symphony - SilverSonic Made By HN White Co. Cleveland - Ohio" A very nice looking and good playing vintage SilverSonic. All original specification preserved. The horn is 99% restored. The engraving is still sharp and readable as it was when new. It has been totally stripped of the old lacquer, buff polished and re-lacquered on the trumpet valve casings, slides and crooks. The bell has been polished and buffed. A very slight buffing to preserve the stencil. No lacquer is applied to the bell or the sterling silver mouthpipe. All solder joints inspected and redone as necessary. Valves and valve casings lapped where necessary and reconditioned. New corks, felts and springs have been installed.
